Assignment 26A – Celebrating Failure
Assignment 26A – Celebrating
Failure
A Time I Failed
This past semester, I most definitely have faced what felt
like failure. I have always dreamed of being a merchandise planner and working
on the finance side of retail and fashion. I had applied for the Bloomingdales
program for merchandise planning, along with many other programs. I was
extremely interested in working there and I was immediately rejected and not
given a reason as to why. I was heartbroken and felt extremely defeated.
What I Learned
I learned from this occurrence to not give up and to persevere.
Although originally feeling defeated and not good enough, I spoke to my family
and friends and they gave me advice. They said you must fail before you succeed
and that stuck with me. I continued to apply to many other retailers and all
sorts of programs. I spoke with advisors and people in the industry to improve
myself. Ultimately, I have succeeded since and have accepted a job with Gap
Inc.
Reflect
I think no matter what anyone says, failure is difficult. No
one likes to work hard for only a poor outcome. However, in order to succeed,
you have to know how to handle failure. Yu can’t let failure get in the way of
moving forward. Personally, I handle failure behind closed doors. I cry it out
sometimes or talk it out with my close friends and family. I eventually
overcome and improve upon my failure. As a result of this class, I have learned
that it is okay to fail and that it is normal and sometimes even beneficial.
