Assignment 12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

Assignment 12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

In order to figure out my buyers’ behavior, I decided to exploit seniors and graduate students at the University of Florida because they are in the most challenging classes, have attended the university the longest, and have had the most opportunities to study at the library. With that being said, they have also had the most opportunities to forget their computer chargers at home while studying at the library. I decided to interview my female friend who is a senior, my male friend who is a senior, and my other female friend who is in the MIS program (a graduate student). For all three interviews, each one has met the need multiple times. They often forget their computer chargers when they have a full day of classes and then go straight to the library to study for their exams. The first interview, my female friend who is a senior, has also had the need to rent a computer charger when she got emailed a pop quiz and had to go straight to the library from her class. She was not planning on going there, and thus did not have her computer charge with her. My male friend who is a senior, usually studies in the comforts of his apartment, so when he does go to the library he is used the easy access of his charger in his room and forgets it. Lastly, my third interview, with my female friend who is the graduate, has forgotten her computer charger multiple times. For all three, they try and solve their problem by finding a friend in a library to borrow a charger from and if not have to go home to retrieve their chargers. After each time it has occurred, they say to themselves that it won’t happen again and unfortunately it has. As a result, this segment definitely has a need for my service, and is aware they have this need.

  1. Hey Jamie! So I know that the concept would work pretty easily with people using Mac laptops since the chargers seem to be universal for the most part but I have seen a lot of Microsoft or Linux OS computers that require different chargers. Are you going to have every charger in existence available to rent? That may present a challenge to keep up with!

  2. I like how you noticed that people say to themselves that they won’t forget their charger again, but they inevitably run into this mistake again. Humans make mistakes like forgetting their charger, and although they can try to remember it, mistakes still happen. This service can give people piece of mind that even if they run into this problem, there will be a solution in place.

  3. Hey Jamie,

I admire how you exploited the group of people who are most likely to encounter the problem because it definitely gauges what your target market would be. Once you have set target market, selling your product will obviously become a lot easier but either way your product will do well as it is human nature to forget things, especially college students and their busy schedules. Your post also ensures people that they have a backup plan just in case they forget which is always nice.

    Great post!

  4. Hey Jamie, I like that you interviewed students that graduated from UF. That way their experience could be directly related to taking advantage of this opportunity. The guy who posted the first comment came up with a good question. There are about three types of Mac chargers, but the PC world has a bunch of different ones. If I were you, I would limit it to the 5 or 6 most bought laptops so they the majority can be served.
